Short Story Illustration: Fictional Futures

For an article on the digital OneWorld magazine I made this colourful illustration featuring a woman breastfeeding her baby.
“In the midst of cardboard boxes, the visable dust, and the smell of paint, she looked serenely at her baby. So exhausted, she had no energy left for embarrassment or irritation. Halfway through the first cup of coffee and the unwrapping of the presents, the housepainter stumbled downstairs, it was X.”
To accompany the beautiful text, I this very atmospheric illustration. it depicts a young mother feeding her baby in a unsettled environment. I wanted to capture the light of late summer afternoons. For this piece I immediatly had a very vivid and clear image in my head. This is it.

Based on a short story by Fiep van Bodegom,
For the same piece I also drew a very bored little girl and a dog with suicidal tentencies. All in the same warm languid colorscheme.
